. Film study is more than an easy class; it’s an elective made for every student. Whether you are someone who is an avid movie watcher, or even if you don’t know what electives to choose for the 25/26 school year, Film Study is here for you. Not only do you get to watch movies in every class, but you also get to have discussions with the students around you and rate every movie you watch. It’s a chance to connect with others over what you love, or might not love, about each movie.
. In Film Study, students will actively learn about the innovation of movies throughout history and gain an understanding of the film-making process. Additionally, students will be watching a film in each class followed by an assignment that goes along with the film. The assignments can vary from a rating of the film to a short project that correlates to the film. Throughout the year, films will be featured in the class in an order of themes. Ranging from old classics to modern favorites, there will be a movie you enjoy. However, the most important lesson that is taught in the class is to have fun watching movies.
. As a Westfield student, you can take the class during any year of high school. Whether you are a freshman who is curious about electives, or a senior who is looking for a fun, easy class, you have the opportunity to take Film Study. Students tend to be fond of Film Study, therefore, spaces for the class fill up quickly; it is important to sign up for the class as quickly as possible. If you decide to take Film Study and enjoy the class, Film Study 2 is also an option for you. Juan Rocha, 12, Film Study 2 student, states: “It [Film Study] is a great place to settle down and relax, and the teachers are chill. The movies are usually pretty good. I run the school.”
