The widely known footballer, Kylian Mbappe, received allegations of sexual assault on October 15, 2024, during his staying in a Swedish hotel. While the French superstar now plays for Real Madrid, the incident occurred while with the French national team. The entire French team, including Mbappe, were staying in Stockholm, Sweden ahead of their friendly/skirmish against Israel in the UEFA Nations League.
While the world is familiar with Mbappe for being one of the best football players in the world, many don’t know he likes to party. Earlier this year he was even seen partying with the likes of Kim Kardashian. While he played for Paris Saint Germain, the Frenchman would often throw parties for his team with some of the best players in the world in attendance. During these parties, he would force his guests to store their phones in what is rumored to be a box to avoid any videos of the party to surface.
At these parties, Mbappe surrounds himself with women. Of these women, the notable ones have been: Ines Rau, A French transgender model, and Stephanie Bertram, a well known Belgian model. Mbappe had been seen with these women, however, their relationship was only rumored. Mbappe himself has never come out publicly or spoken about any relationship in the past. Despite having no previous issues with women, that does not seem to be the case here.
On October 15, 2024, reports from Swedish Media had been released stating that Mbappe was a suspect in a rape investigation. The incident was said to have occurred on October 10, 2024, but there was no identifiable suspect. The woman who was assaulted has decided to remain anonymous. In response to the allegations, Mbappe’s representatives said that the allegations were “totally false.” The Frenchman’s personal team did not seem to take the allegations seriously; they felt as if it was only for propaganda and was even considered to be “a slanderous rumor.” The Real Madrid Manager himself even came out to say, “He is not affected at all.” Despite saying he was not affected, that was the only statement the manager, Carlo Ancelotti, was willing to give. Mbappe himself never made any statements on the situation. Not only is the image of Real Madrid and the French national team being affected, but the sport as a whole. Being one of the best football players in the world means one of the symbols and representatives of the sport itself is being named a rapist.
On October 19, 2024, Mbappe played his first game since receiving the allegations; Mbappe was dropped from the French squad for their second game of the UEFA Nations League against Belgium on October 14, 2024. He scored in the game and went on to help Real Madrid to a crucial victory. As his manager had mentioned, Mbappe seems to be unfazed by the situation.
Even though Mbappe’s representatives refuted the allegations, the investigation on Mbappe has continued. On October 22, 2024, Swedish police went inside Mbappe’s hotel room and checked with the staff to find evidence. It was also found that Mbappe went to a nightclub named Nightclub V, and a French restaurant, Chez Jolie, on the night the incident occurred. Nightclub V is notorious for hosting parties and events. It was reported that around 30 women were invited to a party at the nightclub, along with a few of Mbappe’s French teammates. This is where Mbappe is suspected to have allegedly raped the woman. There is no strong evidence that the allegations on Mbappe are true, or that what was reported is even true. The woman still plans to continue to pursue the case to find the subject, whether it is Mbappe or not.
