Quinn Santilli, 10, when asked how she’s feeling going into the Chantilly game said “I feel very hyped going into the game, if we have good energy then everything else will go well.”
Santilli later added that her goals for the game were “defending and intercepting the ball as many times as she can.”
Westfield went into the game knowing it would be tough, but hoping they would come out on top. They stayed humble, unlike Chantilly.
Chantilly lost touch with reality and went into the game thinking they were untouchable. They had the lineups announced over a loudspeaker while the teams waited for the late referees, abnormal behavior for a JV game. Over the intense screaming and laughter from their opponents, and most importantly, getting the privilege to hear their names mispronounced over a loudspeaker in an empty stadium, Westfield tried to develop a game plan.
Westfield began the game with the ball. Chantilly won the ball quickly and Westfield defended for most of the first quarter. At halftime, the game score was still 0-0. Westfield fought hard, but the game ended at a score of 0-0. Westfield defense performed exceptionally well at the game after a rough previous week.
“I think we did pretty good, [we] could’ve done better, how we did is how we did,” Santilli stated before the relatively short bus ride back to Westfield.
“I think we did a really good job defending,” stated Makenzie Kenney, 10, after the game.
