. For my sophomore year in English, I had an amazing teacher named Mr. Sulkin. He was there to help me the whole year, whether it was school-related problems or home. I was sad for the year to end because I would not be in his class anymore, but he then told me about his journalism class. I decided to take it, and the start was scary because I barely knew anyone.
. Throughout the beginning of the year, I ended up making many new friends, and it made me more comfortable in the class. Looking back, I definitely made many mistakes that I wish I had fixed sooner. One of the biggest mistakes was slacking off. I never took doing my work as seriously as I should have, and it affected my grades and myself because I was always so stressed out. Everyone’s first thought would be to not take this class because they don’t know what they would write or even know how to write. In my experience, this class taught me how to be more creative. I learned how to write proper essays and how to come up with brighter topics. I think if it wasn’t for the teacher, I would not have passed this class; he’s given me chances to fix my mistakes and been there for me even when I wouldn’t listen to the advice he had given me. Towards the end of the year, I realized that wow, this has gone too far, not just in this class but all classes, and started studying and putting school first. It made a huge difference but was a struggle, digging down deep, trying to bring myself back up.
. My advice for next year to myself and anyone else taking this class is to start off strong. Never be afraid to ask for help, just like I was because everyone is willing to help. Also, never change yourself for others; focus on putting yourself first.
