. Despite the fears of many, China does not appear to be planning to attack the United States any time soon. Instead of missiles, the government has opted to send giant pandas to the San Diego Zoo in California, continuing the ongoing conservation effort between the two countries.
. This past November, Americans said goodbye to their last three pandas, Mei Xiang, Tian Tian, and Xiao Qi Ji, as they made their way back to the motherland. Nearly all pandas not currently residing in China are considered to be on loan, and are used as a form of diplomacy between nations.
. While there is no exact date yet, it has been confirmed that San Diego will be receiving two new pandas: Yun Chaun, a five year old male, and Xin Bao, a four year old female. The bears have been described as “playful” and “mild-mannered.”
. The San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance has been partnering with China to lead the conservation effort for nearly 30 years now. This dedication to protecting and recovering bamboo forests and giant pandas will only continue to grow with the arrival of Yun Chaun and Xin Bao.
