Westfield Varsity Softball clinched the second seed in the Concorde District after a big 13-0 win against the Chantilly Chargers, resulting in a first round bye for district playoffs, and guaranteeing a spot for Westfield in regional playoffs.
Starting pitcher Morgan Mills, 10, shut down the Chargers throwing just 69 pitches in the district finale. Mills’ impressive stat line boasts ten strikeouts, no walks, and allowed just a .054 on base percentage.
The Bulldogs’ batting average was a .517, the on base percentage .545 with three walks. Izzy Lalli, 11, and Rylee Schmid, 10, each contributed an extra base hit to the grand total of 15 Westfield hits. Two Westfield players, Mills and Lizzy Laurelli, 11, batted a perfect 1.000, the two combining for five singles.
Westfield will play Tuesday, May 14 at home against number three seed South Lakes. The winner will go on to face the winner of the Chantilly-Madison game on Friday, May 17. The Bulldogs’ next guaranteed game is a regional quarterfinals match-up, with the opponent to be determined based on the winners of districts. While the district championship is yet to be determined, the future looks bright for Westfield Softball.
