Coming off of a huge Friday night win against Centreville, Madison High School was next on the schedule for Westfield Varsity Softball. The Bulldogs had a strong start to the game, and would maintain a competitive score through all seven innings.
Defensively, Westfield played well, leaving a total seven Madison runners on base and fielding .964. In the loss, pitcher Morgan Mills, 10, threw under 100 pitches.
Westfield struggled extensively on the offensive side of the game, producing just one hit the entire game. The Bulldogs totaled four base runners on the night, drawing one walk and two HBPs. Westfield’s competitive matchup against Madison was a pitcher’s duel and their fall was attributed to the lack of hits and baserunners.
The final score was Westfield 0, Madison 4. This is only the first matchup for district teams, and Westfield hopes to strike back against Madison on April 29 in a rematch home at the Dog Pound.
