Anime is a highly influential category that attracts lots of youths. It features the lives of both real and fictional stories, highlighting a diverse range of characters and tastes. What if I said that there were oddly viable similarities between anime characters and our teachers, three of them from Westfield High School? This article will present the charismatic beauty, be it the life, attributes, or story, that can be seen in both anime characters and our teachers.
Haikyuu, an anime released in 2014, features the struggle between society norms and overcoming our inner insecurities. This particular anime’s main character is named Hinata Shoyo. His goal is to surpass the same person who defeated him, only to find out that his new high school teammate is the very rival he has dreamed of overcoming. Overall, the series focuses on how Hinata takes advantage of his height and speed in order to improve, creating a fun and breathtaking story. Honestly, there came a specific teacher in my mind that resembles Hinata’s struggles. Before stating who it is, it might be better to lay out all the details to see. Our teacher takes on the task of viewing a bombarded classroom with two different media classes mixed in. The classroom is full to the point that some students prefer to go out in the C-Hall and work. This teacher is Mr. Sulkin, taking care of over 20 children divided into the Journalism and Broadcast class. Both have a struggle to put up against, with Hinata trying to control and improve in his volleyball skills whereas Mr. Sulkin undertakes the path of improving and managing the media combo classroom. As Hinata gets enlightened in the midst of volleyball competitions, Mr. Sulkin gets to have his enlightenment through the hundreds of stories written by the students.
One Piece is a story about Luffy and his journey to becoming the King of Pirates, and Nami is one of his closest companions throughout the story. She is one of the earliest crew members he gains through the struggle with the villain Arlong. From being threatened to work into being betrayed, she gains one of the most worthy companions (there were three at the time) and puts her life to help Luffy while achieving her own goals. One of the special characteristics of Nami that’s portrayed throughout the story is her desire for money. She LOVES money. So much that she’s the treasury (person managing money) of the Straw Hat pirate crew (Luffy’s crew). You might have guessed it, but indeed this character has a big comparability towards the business class teacher. Although Nami has a weird obsession with money she is also the most careful at managing it. One of the teachers that I’m going to focus on is Ms. Edwards. She (at least in my classes) manages marketing and personal finance classes. Ms. Edwards not only aids her students in understanding the economic world but also guides them to gain the skills to use money wisely. Being a marketing teacher also opens the door to teaching about the schemes and tricks of selling and marketing, very similar to Namis personality. Overall, the connection between these two wonderful women stems from their knowledge of money and putting it into actions (one providing the skills to manage it, Ms. Edwards, while others use those skills, Nami) to bring a change in the world.
Finally, we have an anime movie called Maquia. It is a touching story revolving around an immortal girl who, in the midst of a war, comes to a human country and encounters a wailing baby and a dead mother. With her first encounter with humans, she decides that she’ll take care of the child, basically becoming his mother. A mother is not an easy job, and it wasn’t for her either. The baby’s first steps, teen years, rebellious youth times are lived through the movie, up until the final war where they finally separate. Maquai, the main character and the immortal girl, is seen visiting Ariel (her son) on his deathbed before continuing her journey. For me, a ‘mother’ role who guides teens, shows thema other, takes them under their wings and cares for them is the advisor, which in my case is Ms. Hughes. Both advisor and Maquia chose the path of helping and guiding teens to the path they want. They give them options, present examples and spare time in their own tight times only for the benefits of the students. They are almost always there for the students and care utmost for their wishes, just like Maquia did with her son Ariel. Summing it up, it can said that both characters cary and important weight on their shoulders which draws a line of similarities between them.
It might seem sometimes that everyone is a human, so of course they’re going to be the same in some aspects. Yet when we delve in some details we are all unique in our own ways. I might have a face just like you do, with two eyes, one nose and a mouth, but billions of others have what I do without us looking the same. Sometimes we might say we look completely different. The anime world is just a small section of thoughts coming alive by different hands, and just as much as it’s different, there are also surprisingly the same events/attributes present. These teachers either have a similarity with their career of choice, their characters, or what they teach, but at the same time they are completely unique from each other. It’s enjoyable finding odd similarities between two dimensional and three dimensional people.
