Ever felt like you wanted to fit into school more? Ever wanted to promote your foreign language class? Join the Korean Honor Society! The Korean Honor Society does a wide range of things like tutoring, making booklets, helping out with Korean class events, and more!
The start of KHS
Ever since the Korean Honor Society officially became a part of Westfield High School’s many honor societies, Korean culture has spread throughout Westfield, allowing people who have different backgrounds and cultures to learn more about Korean culture. Many non-Koreans have joined KHS to explore the beauty of Korean culture.
Overview
In the Korean Honor Society, the members create booklets for each Korean class, help the students who struggle with learning the Korean language by tutoring them, and participate in school events like curriculum night, I-NITE, and more! This is a great extracurricular activity to add on to college applications as well. After a student completes four years of Korean language class, they receive a pin and a cord at their graduation ceremony, as well as a certificate with South Korea’s president’s signature recorded on it.
Meet the coordinator!
The Korean Honor Society is managed and run by Mrs. Kim, the Korean language teacher, in Room R215. The classroom is filled with non-Korean and Korean students, culture, and art. Mrs. Kim is currently having a hard time managing her classes due to an injury, so it would be extremely appreciated if more students could join KHS and assist her with the many responsibilities of managing an honor society.
Korean Honor Society Members 2024-25:
“I want to join KHS because it genuinely seems like a fun thing to do with my free time next year and I get to meet new people who share the same interest in Korean culture and our Korean class! I would like to accomplish helping Mrs. Kim out a lot as she is injured, but also helping others and help them understand the material that they are learning. Joining KHS benefits me by providing a good thing to put on my college apps while also getting to learn more about Korean and understand the things Mrs. Kim tells us in Korean.” Xariah Whyte, 10 explains.
“I want to join KHS because I want to get more involved in school and join multiple honor societies. Being in KHS will benefit me by teaching me better responsibility. I want to possibly become an officer in KHS in future years.” comments Katelyn Lee, 9.
“I want to join the Korean Honor Society because I want to help my fellow students who are taking Korean and further educate my knowledge in Korean. The Korean Honor Society will benefit me by learning more about my origin and extend my knowledge. I want to accomplish being a part of a society.” states Anna Kim, 9.
By joining the Korean Honor Society, one can grow as an individual, build relationships, learn about Korean culture, and become exposed to the beauties of Korean culture.
