Following a strong start Wednesday night, Westfield Varsity Softball fell 2-6 to the Yorktown Patriots.
After a scoreless first inning, the Patriots scored one run on an error in the second.
In the bottom of the third, the Bulldogs scored two runs on three hits, both RBIs attributed to Neva Lietzan, 10.
Westfield held a 2-1 lead until a rough top of the sixth, securing Yorktown’s victory. The inning began with a leadoff solo home run, and the Patriots put five runs, four earned, on the board. The Bulldogs were unable to start a rally in the sixth and seventh innings.
Next up for the Bulldogs is an invitational hosted by South Lakes High School. They will face Meridian and West Potomac on Monday, March 25, and then Battlefield on Tuesday, March 26.
