The Westfield Bulldogs vs Colgan Sharks varsity softball game under the Friday night lights is as competitive as it gets in sports.
Westfield Softball had a productive defensive night, with starting pitcher Morgan Mills, 10, throwing 89 pitches in all seven innings. Westfield got out of a one out bases loaded jam in the second inning, adding to the grand total of eight Colgan players left on base. Later, in the top of the third inning, the Bulldogs efficiently shut down the Sharks in just three pitches.
Both teams were relatively quiet on the offensive side. No scoring occurred until Colgan scored one run on an error in the top of the fourth, and Westfield immediately answered with a run. Neva Lietzan, 10, laid down a bunt to third to score Westfield’s run on an error committed by Colgan. The game remained tied until the seventh and final inning, when Colgan took the lead on a wild pitch.
Despite the loss, the Bulldogs’ season is off to a great start. Check out the schedule here to keep up with the team and come out to watch a game!
