. If you’re lucky, it’s a cakewalk. The game in question: Fear and Hunger, an RPG game that is more luck-dependent than you think. On the surface, the game seems simple, but it gets increasingly complicated once you descend into the dungeon. The game has gods, multiple endings, lore, and, most importantly, it’s for ages 18+ (however, one can censor the inappropriate content).
. The game has four playable characters, each with different backstories and reasons for why they have to ascend into the dungeon. Players can change their character backstories by making choices at the start of the game. These choices will determine the skills, gear, and, more importantly, the fears of the character.
. There are many fears, and every character receives one. The options include fear of disease, ghosts, magic, animals, monsters, and everything. Activating the fears of your enemies lowers the opponent’s evasion by 50% and increases the damage of your attack by 50%.
. Aside from that, one can obtain allies throughout the dungeon trek, though these allies come with their fears if they are human allies. One may wonder, can you avoid certain fears, such as fear of everything? Yes and no. The main mechanics in the game designate that almost all of one’s character’s actions are decided by a coin flip, except combat (sometimes). I believe that this is rigged because searching a chest, looking through bookshelves, and more require coin flips. Players may obtain extra coins to increase one’s chance of succeeding, however, the game does not explain how to do this.
. All in all, there are seven endings: E, D. C1, C2, B, A, and S. Every ending can be achieved by any character. However, the hard-level endings C1 and C2 cannot be completed until the S ending is also fulfilled. This ending requires completing your character’s goal in their backstory, which means that the requirements for achieving this ending may differ for each character.
. Although the game is difficult, there are many ways to simplify it, such as empty scrolls and bugs. If you go to a specific spot in the starting area and press a certain key you instantly get two party members which makes no sense. The game has two stats that you must maintain: hunger and mind. Both slowly start to tick down which is a good idea but it doesn’t matter until you learn Transmutation. It can turn one thing into another. It’s broken because if you have access to water vile and moldy bread those states don’t matter. You can use the water veil and turn it into wine which restores the mind and moldy bread becomes more moldy bread which restores hunger. You can learn this spell by getting an empty scroll and writing a specific set of words but you can do anything with an empty scroll by typing a certain set of words you can get anything the best weapon, best armor, and spells that are required for endings you want it you can have it only if you know the keywords.
. Is there a way to prevent this? The only thing stopping this is the coin flip. If a person gets lucky on their coin flips they can get a run that could give them the S ending. In Fear and Hunger 2 Termina they rework a lot of things. You have Three in-game days to get an ending if you don’t you will die on the fourth day. They have removed many spells but most importantly they remove empty scrolls which is good because with one empty scroll, you could get the strongest weapons in the game or learn broken spells.ix mar
. I don’t want to explain most of the gameplay because it is better if you go in blind and figure it out by yourself but if you can’t get an ending or need help seek the wiki because it has everything even to the details.
