. We Were Here is a co-op puzzle game where you and your partner explore Antarctica. You came across a castle and are now trapped inside solving puzzles for freedom.
. There are two roles: The librarian and the explorer. The librarian gives the information to the explorers, and the explorer has to tell you about the puzzle over walkie talkie.
. The game’s puzzles were simple, but others were not. Some puzzles were difficult because they were timed or miscommunication.
The librarian is never really in trouble until the last puzzle introducing the marionette. The marionette is this puppet that starts to move closer, gets too close and it’s a game over. After escaping him comes the choice to hold the gate for your partner to leave or leave your partner behind. The first game had some major issues such as talking over each other’s difficult puzzles and describing things.
. We Were Here Too:
. There are two roles: the Lord and the Peasants. There are major changes: the walkie talkies now have a light telling you if the other person is using it but the puzzles are still an issue. Most puzzles describe things and most we got stuck and some we had to cheat and show each other the thing we were supposed to describe on a video call. The marionette does make an appearance but he was only there for a few spooks and that was really it. There is a secret ending if you find 12 hidden switches, the gate will open without making the choice of leaving someone behind but a character goes back which nullifies the ending.
We Were Here Together:
. Together has a different start. Your characters start at a base and do puzzles there then go to the castle. In addition you can pick up multiple items and store it which is big. The puzzle was much better but they also added multiple ways to attempt the puzzle which is good but it also backfired on them.
. After the first section the second section was unnecessary hard which I let Kyan explain “In the second section the elevators have a main mechanics that is when one elevator goes up another goes down which is a fun idea but the two elevators are far apart from each other it take much longer to realize what your suppose to do” Kyan Dubell, 10, said. An easy fix for this is to put the elevator next to each other or add a hint system after you die a lot on a puzzle or after a certain amount of time.
. They want players to do trial and error but it gets annoying to see the failed screen but the worst thing is the microphones issues. If for some reason we didn’t talk loud enough the game won’t register and your partner won’t hear anything which was a major hassle and problem cause us to lose patience with each other.
. There is lore in this game but both players don’t see the same thing. One player meets a person saying they are stuck in the castle for ages and asks them for help. The other player gets this dagger that is all ghostly, and hears a conversation between two people saying how they both curse and trap a person in the tower. In a later cutscene the man appears again and he told us that the tower was to make a soul stone. He told us to get the other stones to make the soul stone. The person with the dagger hears the ghost talking, but most importantly the dagger starts to repair itself. I wont keep going about the lore just in case you want to play it.
. Review
. We Were Here 8/10 good start but could be better with the light bulb feature from Too. We Were Here Too 9/10 the addition made communication easier and puzzles were difficult but fun. We Were Here Together 7.1/10 The addition of lore made it good but there were major issues that made both me and my partner kill someone. Kyan rates The first game 8.5 because it is simple, polished, and free. Kyan rates the second game another 8.5 he said that he enjoyed the larger place and was worth the price. Kyan rated the third game a 7.5 “The first section of the game was a well-executed step in a different direction but after the chapter finishes the minor flaws start to poke out. The puzzles get more needlessly difficult because of poor design choice” Kyan, 10.
. The series overall is good but there are two games left: We Were Here Forever and We Were Here Expedition. I couldn’t play them because of time restraints and I believe that We Were Here Expedition is outside of the franchise because it didn’t follow that trend with the other games. I do recommend playing these games because it is something new and fresh from other games.
